Some banners suck in visitors and others just suck

Some banners really work overtime for you, while others are just freeloaders, taking up space. Analyze these banners and their performance to find out what works and what doesn't. Then apply the lessons you learn, to improve your own banners.

TECHdivas
This beautifully created, but simple banner gets up to 23% Clickthrough Rate (CTR) some days. Its average over 5 weeks is 15%. On it's worst day, it still got 3.9%

Group42
I created this one in about 10 minutes, based on the lessons learned from the TECHdivas banner. You can see I'm not a graphic artist, but with a best ever 3.1% CTR and a 5 week average of 1%, I'm not complaining. On it's worst day, it got no clicks. I could probably do better.

LinkScout
Animated banners drive some people crazy. This one delivers a message and asks you to take action. It's best ever 5.1% CTR and 2 week average of 2% is impressive considering how simple it is. On it's worst day, it got no clicks.

AchieveWealthAtHome
This banner is so basic, but it works because the domain name and the objective of the site are the same. Get a domain name that contains the keywords that describe your site and put them in your banner. This banner draws a 7% CTR.

Go Emerchant
This is a good looking banner There is colour, text, a good looking offer, but it performed very poorly. 2,000 impressions and only 1 Clickthrough. It may have been poorly targetted, but there are several other problems. First, it has a price and that just scares people away. They know you are going to sell to them. Second, there is no call for action. Third, it tries to tell its whole story in the banner - leave something unsaid so viewers have a need to see the next page.

Earth-Essences
I have to admit, I made this banner. It is straight HTML. It has a dismal record! 5,000 impressions and not a single click!  What do you think is wrong?
